Storyville Life 33Give me that Old Time Religion.
As Buddy Bolden did not leave any recordings behind him, we will never for sure know what he and his band actually sounded like. But we know he was inspired by church music, and that he played the music of the streets as well. On this recording of “Give me that Old Time Religion” from 1986, The Olympia Brass Band and St. Monica’s choir combine those two music forms. The lead vocals are by Camilie Treaudo and Milton Batiste, who also plays the trumpet.
